Syrian Airlines has resumed direct passenger flights between Damascus and Amsterdam, with the first service arriving at Damascus International Airport on Thursday after a suspension that lasted several years.
Anwar Aqqad, Chief Executive Officer of the Syrian Aviation Holding Company, said the restored route provides an important connection for Syrians living abroad and represents the beginning of a broader expansion into international markets. He added that additional destinations will be announced in the coming period and pointed to encouraging progress in discussions with European aviation operators.
The airline has initially scheduled three weekly flights between Damascus and Amsterdam, with plans to increase frequencies based on passenger demand and future traffic growth.
According to Syrian Airlines, the route's return follows extensive technical, legal and diplomatic work to restore operations in European markets. The carrier has also been rebuilding its fleet, increasing the number of operational aircraft and introducing digital booking and payment services as part of its modernization efforts.
Syria's aviation sector has continued to recover in recent months. Passenger traffic at Damascus International Airport exceeded 148,000 in May 2026, while 12 airlines are currently operating services to and from the country. The Syrian civil aviation authority is also engaged in discussions with several European countries to re-establish additional direct air connections.
