Air Arabia has officially launched a new twice-daily non-stop route connecting Sharjah International Airport with London Gatwick Airport, further expanding its international network and strengthening air links between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
The inaugural flight took off on July 4, marking the airline's latest step in increasing connectivity between the two countries. The new service is designed to provide passengers with more affordable and convenient travel options while supporting growing demand for international air travel.
Launch ceremonies were held at both Sharjah International Airport and London Gatwick Airport. The events were attended by senior representatives from the Sharjah Airport Authority, officials from the British Embassy in the UAE, and Air Arabia executives.
The airline said the new route is expected to contribute to stronger tourism, trade, and economic cooperation between the UAE and the UK.
Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, described the London Gatwick service as an important addition to the carrier's expanding global network. He said the new connection reflects the airline's commitment to offering greater choice, convenience, and value for travellers while enhancing connectivity between the two countries and supporting tourism, business, and cultural exchanges.
Ali Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said the launch represents a significant step in the airport's strategy to expand its presence in one of the world's leading aviation markets. He noted that the direct connection with London strengthens Sharjah's role as an international gateway, broadens travel options for passengers, and reinforces the airport's position as a regional aviation hub while supporting its long-term network expansion plans.
Jonny Macneal, Head of Aviation Development at London Gatwick, welcomed Air Arabia to the airport, saying the addition enhances the airport's airline portfolio and route network. He added that the twice-daily schedule offers greater flexibility for travellers while improving connectivity between London and the Middle East and increasing destination choices for passengers.
