Qatar is strengthening its position as a major global aviation and logistics hub as Hamad International Airport (HIA) and the national air transport sector continue to post strong growth across key performance indicators.
New data from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) shows aircraft movements rising nearly 7 percent year on year, passenger numbers up more than 10 percent, and cargo and courier volumes increasing by 4 percent last month. The momentum follows HIA’s record-setting third quarter, during which the airport welcomed over 14 million passengers, its busiest to date.
Aviation expert and ICAO Ground Instructor Khamis Abdullah Alkhelaifi said the latest figures show clear signs of resilience and steady post-pandemic recovery. “October’s performance indicates strong and consistent growth across Qatar’s aviation sector, reflecting rising travel demand and improved operational efficiency at HIA,” he said.
He noted that increased aircraft movements signal stronger airline activity and expanding global route networks—particularly from Qatar Airways and its partners. “More flights are arriving and departing, showing greater international connectivity and potential new destinations,” he added.
Passenger growth also surged into double digits, supported by rising tourism, business travel, and HIA’s role as a leading global transit hub. “A double-digit rise in passenger flow highlights robust demand, both inbound and outbound,” Alkhelaifi said.
Cargo and courier volumes also recorded steady growth, underscoring Qatar’s expanding role in global trade. With support from Qatar Airways Cargo, HIA continues to develop its reputation as a key logistics hub.
Alkhelaifi said the combined rise in flights, passengers, and cargo reflects strong sector-wide confidence. “HIA’s busiest quarter underscores operational resilience and market strength. Qatar’s aviation sector is entering a mature growth phase driven by global connectivity, strategic airline partnerships, and continued investment in airport capacity and service excellence,” he said.
