Istanbul Airport maintained its position as Europe’s busiest airport, recording an average of 1,587 daily arrivals and departures between September 21 and 27, according to the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).
Amsterdam Schiphol ranked second with 1,423 daily flights, followed by Paris Charles de Gaulle with 1,384. Frankfurt Airport recorded 1,359 daily flights, while London Heathrow ranked fifth with 1,324.
Istanbul Airport’s traffic was 1% lower than the previous week, mainly due to weaker domestic activity. However, its overall traffic remained broadly stable compared with the same period in 2025.
Türkiye’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu highlighted the figures in a social media post, saying Istanbul Airport had continued to hold the top position in Europe.
He added that Türkiye was continuing to invest in aviation infrastructure to strengthen Istanbul’s role as a major global air transport hub.
The EUROCONTROL report also placed Istanbul Airport seventh worldwide for average daily departures, while Amsterdam Schiphol ranked 10th.
Across Europe, the aviation network averaged 35,279 flights per day during the reporting period. That represented a 1.1% decline from the previous week but a 2.9% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
