In a statement issued early Sunday, GACA confirmed that the dead included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
The authority said several of the injured were in critical condition and that all casualties were receiving medical treatment at hospitals. It expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
GACA also confirmed that the attack caused property damage, adding that assessments were underway to determine the full extent of the destruction.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the incident as authorities evaluated the damage and checked the safety of airport facilities. The suspension allowed emergency response teams and relevant agencies to conduct safety assessments and protect passengers, airport staff and civil aviation infrastructure.
In its initial statement, GACA said several people had been injured, noting that the full casualty figures were still being verified.
Saturday’s attack came just two days after three Saudi citizens were killed and several others injured in two separate attacks on the same airport on Thursday.
