Australia has simplified its visa application process for Pakistani travellers with the introduction of the Australian Immi App, allowing eligible applicants to submit their passport details and facial biometrics directly through their smartphones. The digital shift removes the need for many applicants to visit an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC), significantly reducing processing time and travel costs.
The app is available to those whose Requirement to Provide Personal Identifiers letter contains a Visa Lodgement Number (VLN) beginning with AUI or AUH, and who hold a valid passport. Applicants with VLNs starting with other codes must still complete biometrics at an ABCC.
Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Timothy Kane said the new system enhances accessibility for prospective travellers, students, and skilled workers. “Applicants can securely provide their details from anywhere, reducing both time and travel expenses,” he noted. The service is currently available only for Pakistani applicants applying from within Pakistan.
How the Immi App Works
Download the App
Available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Requirements:
- Stable mobile or Wi-Fi connection
- NFC-enabled device with camera and location services enabled
Step-by-Step Identity Verification:
- Enter VLN: Scan or manually enter the Visa Lodgement Number from the biometrics letter. Each applicant, including family members, must submit their own VLN.
- Scan Passport: Enable NFC and place the device over the passport’s data page to capture chip information.
- Verify Details: Review the extracted passport data and rescan if needed.
- Capture Photo: Stand against a light-coloured wall, face the camera, remove glasses if possible, and follow the guide to take a clear facial image.
- Submit: Optionally enter an email for confirmation. The app sends all data securely to Australia’s Department of Home Affairs and does not retain information on the device.
Global Rollout
Launched in 2024, the Immi App is already used across the Pacific and Asia. With Pakistan’s inclusion, it is now available in 34 countries, spanning regions in the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America, and Europe. Full global rollout is expected by early 2026. Applicants can find complete guidelines, eligibility details, and troubleshooting support on the Department of Home Affairs website.
