Zayed International Airport (AUH) has taken home the prestigious ‘Best Airport for Retail’ title at the Frontier Awards 2025 in Cannes, reinforcing its global standing as a hub of experiential travel, architectural brilliance, and retail innovation.
The accolade, presented during the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, marks a significant leap from AUH’s Highly Commendable recognition at the same awards in 2024. It also adds to Abu Dhabi Airports’ growing list of international honours, including AUH’s win as the World’s Most Beautiful Airport at the Prix Versailles 2024, underscoring the emirate’s rising prominence in airport design and passenger experience.
At the same ceremony, Presentedby – Avolta, one of AUH’s standout retail partners, was awarded ‘Best Speciality Concept’ for its cutting-edge retail innovation and design. The recognition follows the brand’s Platinum Award win at the London Design Awards 2025 in the Interior Design – Retail category, spotlighting AUH’s position as a global incubator for next-generation retail concepts.
The Frontier Awards, considered the Oscars of the travel retail industry, celebrate global excellence in creativity, innovation, and commercial strategy. For Abu Dhabi Airports, the 2025 victory highlights its strategic focus on placing passengers at the heart of every initiative.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed pride in the achievement:
“I am immensely proud of our team’s dedication over the past two years in positioning Zayed International Airport among the world’s leading retail destinations. These global recognitions reaffirm our belief that airports can enrich, delight, and embody the spirit and ambition of Abu Dhabi. We thank all our partners and concessionaires for their collaboration and commitment to excellence.”
Since its grand opening in November 2023, AUH has redefined airport retail through a curated blend of luxury brands, authentic Emirati hospitality, and immersive experiences that create a strong sense of place. The airport’s vast retail and dining portfolio spans 37,500 square metres and features over 163 outlets, offering travellers a seamless mix of world-class shopping and dining.
The airport’s retail success aligns with its impressive traffic growth, as Abu Dhabi Airports reports 17 consecutive quarters of double-digit increases through the first half of 2025. Passenger numbers surged 44.5% in 2023, followed by another 28% rise in 2024, cementing AUH’s role as a global leader in the evolving travel retail landscape.
