Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the launch of direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Kabul, Afghanistan, beginning 18 December 2025.
The new route will operate three times weekly using the airline’s Airbus A320, featuring eight Business Class and 150 Economy Class seats. The service will provide direct access between the two capitals while offering onward connections through Abu Dhabi to destinations across the GCC, Europe, Australia, and North America.
Etihad said the decision to add Kabul to its network responds to increasing travel demand between the UAE and Afghanistan, while also supporting trade, investment, and cultural links. The UAE is home to one of the largest Afghan expatriate communities in the Gulf, with around 300,000 Afghans living and working in the country.
Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves said: “Kabul represents another important step in Etihad’s strategy to expand access to markets within a four-hour radius of Abu Dhabi, while strengthening connections to major destinations across our global network. These flights will serve strong demand for travel, enable trade and investment flows, and reconnect families and communities.”
The Kabul service becomes Etihad’s 31st new route announced in 2025, reflecting the airline’s continued growth across the Middle East and South Asia. The carrier is targeting 38 million passengers annually by 2030 as it strengthens Abu Dhabi’s role as a key regional hub.
