Wizz Air is further strengthening its presence in the Serbian market with the launch of two new summer routes from Belgrade to Alghero and Palermo, enhancing its growing Italian network. The additions complement the previously announced services to Pisa and Chania, broadening the carrier’s 2026 summer offering from the Serbian capital.
Flights to Alghero will commence on March 30, while services to Palermo will begin on March 31. Both routes will operate three times per week, competing directly with Air Serbia, which serves the same destinations twice weekly.
Announcing the expansion, Olivia Harangozo, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said the new routes reflect the airline’s commitment to increasing connectivity and offering affordable travel across Europe.
“We are delighted to launch new direct services from Belgrade to Sardinia and Sicily, expanding our summer portfolio and offering passengers greater choice to explore Italy’s most popular Mediterranean destinations,” she said. “These new routes provide comfortable and budget-friendly options for leisure travellers, city break enthusiasts, and those visiting friends and family.
Wizz Air remains dedicated to growing its Belgrade network and strengthening Serbia’s connectivity with leading European tourist hubs while maintaining our signature standards of quality and service.”
Wizz Air recorded a strong performance in Serbia last year, carrying nearly two million passengers across its operations in 2025 on around 9,600 flights. While the airline has not disclosed an average load factor, industry estimates place it between 85% and 88%, marking a notable improvement from 2024, when it served approximately 1.5 million passengers.
For 2026, the carrier plans substantial growth in capacity. In the first half of the year alone, Wizz Air has scheduled over 1.04 million seats from its Serbian bases—excluding the newly announced Alghero and Palermo routes—representing a 32.4% year-on-year increase, or roughly 256,000 additional seats. Overall capacity growth will outpace the number of operated flights, which is set to rise by 7.9%.
The airline began 2026 by launching seasonal winter flights between Belgrade and Grenoble, followed by the resumption of services between Niš and Dortmund after a two-year break. During the upcoming summer, Wizz Air will continue operating recently introduced routes to Madrid and Alicante while expanding with new services to Alghero, Palermo, Pisa, and Chania.
However, the airline will discontinue flights to Lisbon, Copenhagen, and Heraklion, which were part of last year’s schedule. From Niš, the carrier will add two new destinations compared to 2025, introducing services to Bratislava and Dortmund.
Commenting on its long-term presence in Serbia, the airline said, “Our goal is to consistently expand the range of destinations from Belgrade and further strengthen Serbia’s connectivity with key European tourist markets. Since launching operations from Belgrade in 2007, Wizz Air has established itself as a leading choice for affordable and reliable air travel.”
The airline added that it now supports over 180 direct jobs in Serbia and contributes to approximately 9,400 indirect positions across sectors linked to aviation, tourism, and related industries—underlining its growing role in the country’s transport and economic ecosystem.
