Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the launch of direct flights to Kabul, Afghanistan, starting 18 December 2025. The new route will operate three times a week, further expanding the airline’s regional footprint and enhancing connectivity between the UAE and Afghanistan.
The service will be operated by Etihad’s Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring eight Business Class and 150 Economy Class seats, offering passengers a blend of comfort and convenience along with the airline’s signature hospitality.
According to Etihad Airways, the new flights respond to strong travel demand between the UAE and Afghanistan and will offer seamless onward connections via Abu Dhabi to destinations across the GCC, Europe, Australia, and North America. Kabul becomes the airline’s 31st new route announced in 2025, reinforcing its growth strategy across the Middle East and South Asia.
Etihad Group CEO Antonoaldo Neves said the launch aligns with the airline’s plan to expand within a four-hour radius of Abu Dhabi, while boosting global connectivity. “These flights will serve strong demand for travel, enable trade and investment flows, and reconnect families and communities,” he said. “Through Abu Dhabi, guests from Afghanistan will enjoy seamless access to our expanding global network.”
The UAE currently hosts one of the largest Afghan communities in the Gulf, with an estimated 300,000 Afghans living and working in the country. The new service is expected to strengthen cultural and economic ties and support the Afghan diaspora’s travel needs.
Etihad Airways has seen passenger numbers grow by over 80% since 2022, as the airline continues to invest in key regional markets. The airline aims to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030, positioning Abu Dhabi as a leading hub for trade, tourism, and global mobility.
