Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has officially resumed its direct flights between Bahrain International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), reinforcing the long-standing partnership and strategic cooperation between Bahrain and the United States.
The relaunch of the route is seen as a milestone in enhancing bilateral relations and expanding opportunities across trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. It also underscores Gulf Air’s role in connecting Bahrain to global markets and supporting the Kingdom’s growing prominence as a regional aviation hub.
An official ceremony to mark the occasion was held at JFK Airport, attended by senior officials and dignitaries, including H.E. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the United States; H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations; and H.E. Ms. Sara Ahmed Buhejji, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. Representatives from Gulf Air, JFK Airport management, and the U.S. diplomatic corps were also present.
In his address, H.E. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa highlighted the strategic significance of reestablishing direct air links between Bahrain and New York, calling it a pivotal step in deepening the historic partnership between the two nations. H.E. Ms. Sara Ahmed Buhejji emphasized that the new route represents a major advance in Bahrain’s tourism ambitions, aligning with the national Tourism Strategy 2022–2026 and strengthening ties with the U.S. travel market.
A parallel celebration took place at Bahrain International Airport to mark the inaugural flight, attended by H.E. Mr. Khalid Hussein Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group; H.E. Ms. Elizabeth Litchfield, Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain; Mr. Hussain Ahmed Shuail, Undersecretary for Civil Aviation Affairs; and senior representatives from Gulf Air and Bahrain Airport Company.
Gulf Air will operate three weekly flights to New York, offering passengers seamless connections to destinations across the Americas. The airline reaffirmed its commitment to providing world-class service and enhancing global connectivity, further positioning Bahrain as a key gateway between East and West.
