British Airways has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding operations in India, announcing plans to launch a third daily flight between London Heathrow and Delhi in 2026, subject to regulatory and capacity approvals. The announcement coincides with the UK Government’s landmark ‘Britain Means Business’ trade mission to India, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
As part of the initiative, around 130 UK business leaders and senior ministers travelled to Mumbai aboard a chartered British Airways flight to promote trade links following the signing of a new Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the UK and India in July.
Sean Doyle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of British Airways, said the airline’s expansion aligns with the deepening economic relationship between the two nations. “Our ties with India were established over a century ago, and today, we have around 2,500 colleagues based there. With the FTA paving the way for greater economic cooperation, British Airways will play a key role as an enabler of trade and connectivity,” Doyle said.
British Airways currently operates 56 direct services weekly across five Indian cities. In addition to the new Delhi flight, the airline will reintroduce its First cabin on flights from London to Mumbai this month, and the latest Club Suite business class product will be available on select flights across all Indian routes by the end of 2026.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the airline’s role in strengthening bilateral ties. “British Airways has connected the United Kingdom and India for more than a century. As our landmark trade deal opens new doors for business, the airline will continue to play a vital role in driving growth and deepening our cultural and economic partnership,” he said.
British Airways also marked 20 years of service to Bangalore this month. To enhance the travel experience, it has introduced a free Meet and Assist service for passengers needing additional support when flying from India to the UK. Since launching in March, over 5,500 customers have used the service, which is staffed by multilingual employees fluent in Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, and Tamil.
The airline’s India growth forms part of its £7 billion global transformation programme, which includes upgraded lounges, new short-haul seating, free onboard Wi-Fi messaging, and a host of service enhancements designed to elevate the customer experience.
