Saudi low-cost carrier flyadeal is set to launch twice-weekly flights between Riyadh and Lahore starting October 27. This marks the airline's fifth route to Pakistan in less than three months, as it accelerates its expansion in South Asia.
A sister airline to the full-service carrier Saudia, flyadeal entered the Pakistani market in August with services to Karachi, quickly followed by routes to Islamabad, Peshawar, and Sialkot. With Lahore's addition, the airline now offers a total of 18 flights per week to Pakistan.
"It's been a fabulous few months for us building flyadeal's successful Pakistan operations with new routes in quick succession," said Steven Greenway, CEO of flyadeal. He noted that the expansion was driven by aircraft availability and strong market demand, prompting the introduction of the Riyadh to Lahore flights earlier than anticipated.
This rapid rollout reflects the robust demand from Pakistan's large expatriate community in Saudi Arabia, which is estimated to be over 2.7 million. Lahore, the capital of Punjab province and Pakistan's second-largest city with a population exceeding 13 million, is a key market for flyadeal's value-driven model.
“The Lahore route will cater largely to the Pakistani expatriate community in the Kingdom, encompassing a mix of business, leisure, and worker traffic," Greenway said, emphasizing the airline's commitment to providing low fares.
All flights to Pakistan will operate using Airbus A320 aircraft configured with 186 economy-class seats to maintain low costs while maximizing capacity.
This expansion aligns with flyadeal's broader ambitions under Saudi Vision 2030. Since its launch in 2017, the airline has grown to operate 42 aircraft to over 30 destinations across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and South Asia. By 2030, flyadeal aims to triple its network to over 100 destinations with more than 100 aircraft. The airline made its largest-ever order in May 2024 for 51 new aircraft, with deliveries set to begin in 2027. Additionally, the carrier plans to enter the long-haul market in 2027 with 10 Airbus A330neo widebody aircraft, expanding its route possibilities to South Asia and beyond.
